These general instructions supplement our videos and the Tesla Service Manual.
- Prepare your Tesla. Park on firm, level ground, shift into Park, and secure the vehicle against movement according to the service manual. On vehicles equipped with adjustable air suspension, activate the required Jack Mode before lifting.
- Confirm your new wheels and tires. Verify wheel fitment, tire sizes, load ratings, lug nut compatibility, and correct front/rear and driver/passenger placement. Some Tesla configurations use directional or staggered wheel and tire sizes.
- Position the jack correctly. Locate the approved Tesla lifting point. Install the appropriate lifting adapter if required, and position a properly rated jack according to Tesla's instructions. Never lift against the battery pack or an unapproved underbody location.
- Loosen the lug nuts. With the tire still on the ground, use the correct socket and breaker bar to slightly loosen each lug nut. Do not completely remove them yet.
- Raise and secure the vehicle. Lift only as much as necessary to remove the wheel, following Tesla's approved lifting procedure. Use appropriate safety support where required. Never work beneath a vehicle supported only by a jack. Do not stick any part of your body in the wheel well or anywhere under the vehicle.
- Remove the factory wheel. Remove the loosened lug nuts and carefully lift the wheel away from the hub. Avoid damaging the wheel, brake components, or surrounding bodywork.
- Inspect the mounting surfaces. Check the hub and wheel mating surfaces for dirt, corrosion, debris, or damage. Ensure they are clean and seat properly.
- Install your new wheel. Position the correct wheel onto the hub. Start all lug nuts by hand to prevent cross-threading. Snug them evenly in a star pattern without final tightening while the wheel is elevated. Be sure the wheel is seating on flush and evenly on the hub.
- Lower and torque the wheel. Lower the vehicle until the tire is sufficiently supported to prevent rotation. Using a calibrated torque wrench, tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specification for your vehicle and hardware. For Tesla Model 3, Y, S, and X applications, the factory specification is 129 lb-ft (175 Nm). Always verify the applicable specification for your specific model and year in the Tesla Service Manual.
- Repeat and perform final checks. Complete the remaining wheels, verify proper tire inflation, confirm all lug nuts are torqued, and check that nothing interferes with the brakes or suspension. To reconnect and reset TPMS, typically driving 15 miles at highway speeds (or less) will complete the process. Some older models may require resetting in the center screen or as prescribed in the Tesla Service Manual for that specific model. Always follow the model-specific TPMS procedure.
Tesla Tire Inflation Guide
Where Do I Find the Correct Tire Pressure?
Your Tesla's recommended cold tire inflation pressure is printed on the Tire and Loading Information decal located on the driver's side door jamb / center door pillar, visible when you open the driver's door.
This label identifies the factory tire sizes and recommended cold inflation pressures. Your Tesla touchscreen may also display recommended pressures and current tire readings, depending on model and configuration.
If your aftermarket tire size or load requirements differ from the original equipment, verify the appropriate inflation pressure with T Sportline or a qualified tire professional. Special loading and towing conditions may also require different pressures.
Why Proper Tire Inflation Matters
Maintaining the correct tire pressure is especially important on an electric vehicle like a Tesla. Tire pressure affects several aspects of your driving experience.
How to Check and Adjust Tire Pressure
- Check when cold. Ideally, allow the vehicle to sit for at least three hours before measuring tire pressure, or follow Tesla's cold-tire guidance.
- Find your target PSI. Read the Tire and Loading Information label inside the driver's door opening.
- Measure each tire. Remove the valve cap and use an accurate tire pressure gauge or inflator with a pressure display.
- Inflate or adjust. Add or release air as necessary to reach the correct cold tire pressure.
- Verify and finish. Recheck each tire, reinstall the valve caps, and follow your Tesla's TPMS instructions if required.
Helpful tip: Tire pressure naturally changes with temperature. A drop of approximately 10°F in ambient temperature can lower tire pressure by about 1 PSI. Check your tires at least monthly and before longer trips.
Do not release air from warm tires simply to bring them down to the recommended cold PSI. Driving heats the tires and temporarily increases pressure.

Before driving your Tesla with its newly installed wheels and tires, complete these important checks:
- All four wheels are correctly positioned and fully seated.
- Every lug nut has been tightened to the verified torque specification.
- All tires are inflated to the appropriate cold pressure.
- Front and rear wheel and tire sizes are installed in their correct positions.
- Valve caps and center caps are installed securely.
- There is no visible interference with brake or suspension components.
- The vehicle's TPMS is operating normally or has completed any required setup.
- Any required Jack Mode or lifting settings have been returned to normal.
During your first drive, begin cautiously and pay attention to unusual vibrations, noises, or changes in handling. If anything seems incorrect, stop safely and inspect the installation before continuing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install T Sportline wheels myself?
Yes. Many Tesla owners install their own wheel and tire packages using the correct tools and lifting procedures. If you don't have suitable equipment or experience, professional installation is recommended.
Do T Sportline wheel and tire packages arrive ready to install?
Complete mounted and balanced wheel and tire packages are generally designed for convenient installation. Verify the configuration of your specific order, including TPMS sensors and lug hardware, before starting.
What is the correct Tesla lug nut torque?
Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X applications commonly specify 129 lb-ft (175 Nm). Always verify the applicable specification for your specific model and year in the Tesla Service Manual.
How often should I check my Tesla tire pressure?
We recommend checking your tire pressure at least once per month, before long trips, and whenever ambient temperatures change significantly.
Will my Tesla automatically recognize new tire pressure sensors?
Compatible TPMS sensors on many Tesla models are recognized automatically after driving, but procedures vary by vehicle year, configuration, and sensor type. Follow the instructions for your specific vehicle and sensors.
Can I rotate my Tesla tires?
Many Tesla wheel and tire setups can be rotated, but staggered configurations and directional tires may restrict rotation patterns. Check your specific tire and wheel configuration before rotating.
