Teslas like many modern day cars are sensitive to road vibration. Wheel balancing technology has improved by addressing non-balance related factors that standard balancing doesn’t account for.
Regardless of improvements in modern day wheel and tire manufacturing, there is still product released that is inconsistent in stiffness, weight and balance. We call this lateral or radial runout, which are high or low points in the tire or wheel construction.
Force variation occurs in tires that have spots that are stiffer in one area. Runout combined with Force Variation can cause ride handling vibration. If traditional balancing with wheel weights aren’t providing a smooth ride, it’s possible that the cause is Runout and/or Force Variation.
This is why T Sportline uses Road Force Balancing to minimize these issues. Road force balancing is the most effective way to diagnose and resolve runout or force variation vibrations. A Roadforce tire balancer is a top of the line balancing machine and uses a load-roller to simulate the force of the road, and thereby measures the combined uniformity of a tire and wheel package.
Our Roadforce balancer measures the force variation and runout of the whole tire and wheel assembly. This information is then used to determine what steps to take to compensate for any tire and wheel inconsistencies. This may mean simply adding weights or even remounting the tire and wheel to minimize the overall runout.
