How to Install Tesla Cybertruck Grill Mounted 40" Light Bar

This product was designed to be installed in the grill area of the Tesla Cybertruck. Brackets will use stock mounting locations located near the OEM tow hooks. This lightbar is 48V and designed to be powered from the Cybertrucks' frunk auxiliary power.

    Required Tools:

    • Allen Key
    • Pry tool
    • 10mm socket and Rachet
    • Wire stripper or blade
    • Heat gun or equivalent.
    • Electrical Tape - Optional
    • Threadlocker - Optional

    Installing the 40” Curved Lightbar:

Preparing the Truck to Power System Connection

Open the frunk, then power off the truck by going to the Control Tab > Safety > Power Off

Remove the Frunk insert following the instructions from Tesla:

    https://service.tesla.com/docs/Cybertruck/ServiceManual/en-us/GUID-46266AE5-348E-4581-9634-3F1CFC5123AF.html

Locate the frunk outlet terminal supplied by Tesla (Orange circle). Use a razor to peel back the wire sealing to reveal 3x terminals (Red with Blue Stripe-48V Power, Green -LIN system [not needed], Brown with Blue Stripe - Ground). Remove 0.25” of insulation from the truck power and ground wires, the Green wire can remain untouched (it is a good idea to wrap electrical tape around the Green wire if any insulation was removed or if there is exposed wire).

With the Truck Power and Ground wire insulation removed, gather the DT pigtail, the 2x solder sleeves, and a heat gun. Solder the truck power to the positive (red) wire of the pigtail and the truck ground to the ground (black) wire of the pigtail. Do not leave any wire exposed. Ensure that the solder within the solder sleeve melts to the point of flowing into the wires (see representative photo below). Keep heating until all the heat shrink around the wire has created a watertight seal.

    Installing the Brackets and Lightbar

Using your pry tool, remove the tow hook cover on both the passenger and drivers side.

Remove the 10mm bolts under the tow hooks.

Using the supplied black M6 socket head hardware and 1x washer, install the bracket as shown on both the drivers and passenger side with a small drop of threadlocker. The bracket is to be oriented with the lightbar mounting face in the inner and upper portion of the tow hook. The bracket can remain loosely fastened.

Note: On the passenger side, route the lightbar side DT connector through the center of the bracket before fastening for seamless wiring up to the auxiliary frunk power leads.

Mount the lightbar loosely between the newly installed tow hook brackets. The orientation should be:

      1. Stainless steel socket head bolt with threadlocker
      2. Washer
      3. Cam tensioner
      4. Washer
      5. Tow hook bracket
      6. Lightbar

With the assembly loosely fastened, center the whole assembly in the grill, matching the gap on each side of the tow hook bracket. Tighten the black socket cap screws under the town hooks till they are snug, approximately 7 lb-ft.

Looking at the Cam tensioner from the outside, rotate the Cam tensioner clockwise until a slight preload is placed on the bracket assembly in the vertical direction. This will provide stability for the lightbar when operating on rough roads. The Cam tensioner will provide the most preload when the small cutout is pointed at the 6 o'clock position - for most applications, this position will be too far. Tighten the M6 bolt till snug, approximately 5 lb-ft.

Plugging in and powering on the 40” Lightbar

Run the 40” lightbars DT connector up through the frunk to the auxiliary frunk connector spliced earlier. Connect the DT connectors.

Inside the Cybertruck press the brake to power the truck back on. Go to the infotainment screen and tap Controls Tab>Outlets and Mods and hit the switch for the Frunk Power. Confirm that the lightbar illuminates, if it does not, find the disconnect in the wiring.

    Re-Assembly

With the lightbar properly powered, the frunk can be reinstalled following the reverse procedure outlined in ' Preparing the Truck to Power System Connection'.
