Will Elon Musk be the World's First Trillionaire?

The Tesla CEO’s quest for 4 commas picks up speed

Analysts at Morgan Stanley have predicted that Elon Musk is on track to become the world’s first trillionaire. Musk, who currently sits as the world’s wealthiest individual with an approximate net worth of $241 billion, has made a majority of his money from his revolutionary EV company Tesla. The EV maker has been increasing their profits recently with price increases to their vehicle line (LINK OTHER ARTICLE ONCE PUBLISHED ABOUT PRICE INCREASES).  But what has sparked analysts attention is the potential of Musk’s space exploration company, SpaceX.

Morgan Stanley’s analysts have speculated that SpaceX may eventually become the most highly valued company in the world. Their predictions put the company at a value of $200 billion, and that number could rise even higher spending on the direction SpaceX moves in the future. Whether it be commercial space flight or the low-latency broadband internet system of Starlink, SpaceX could disrupt a series of industries with its cutting-edge technology.

SpaceX was originally started with the goal of getting humans to Mars, with the stated objective being to establish the first human colony on the currently empty planet. With their first rocket failing to reach orbit on its first 3 attempts Falcon 1 succeeded in September of 2008. After its successful orbital entry, SpaceX gained the attention of NASA.

    NASA Contracts

Shortly after Falcon 1’s success, NASA awarded SpaceX a $1.6 billion dollar contract to bring supplies to the international space station. The move saved NASA millions of dollars, as they formerly relied on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft to help resupply the I.S.S. NASA recently gave SpaceX another contract, this time worth $2.6 billion. This new agreement allows NASA to transport astronauts from lunar orbit to the surface of the moon.

SpaceX is the second largest privately held company in the world, with Musk owning 48% of the entire organization. This ownership, in addition to Musk’s shares of Tesla and his numerous other assets, are what helped him surpass Jeff Bezos to take the position of world’s wealthiest person; The former Amazon CEO lags behind Musk by about $42 billion. So how did Musk make the majority of his current wealth?

While SpaceX may be how Musk passes that trillion dollar mark, Tesla is what put Musk on the map. Founded in 2003, Tesla currently has a net worth of nearly $850 billion. Their revolutionary line of vehicles helped bring EV cars into the modern age, by creating sleek designs with attractive interiors.

Tesla also inspired the creation of entire industries dedicated to making their products even better, with companies like T-Sportline offering amazing Tesla aftermarket accessories. With the green energy movement growing, Tesla continues to be on the cutting-edge of the EV market.  But will this growth be enough to get Musk to the trillion dollar mark? With the accumulated wealth of his other ventures, analysts say all signs point to yes. Soon we may see the Tesla CEO as the first human being to reach that lofty level of wealth.
