    What Makes Tesla Wheels Unique?

T Sportline has been upgrading Tesla vehicles with custom interiors, body kits, and wheels since 2013. As with any aftermarket upgrades, there are varying levels of quality, and T Sportline has set the bar quite high when it comes to quality Tesla upgrades. With wheels playing perhaps one of the most important roles in a car’s mechanical makeup, it may be prudent to look for a set that is manufactured to a high standard, as well as one that looks and performs well, and T Sportline offers just that.

    Made Specifically For Tesla Vehicles

Being Tesla owners ourselves, we here at T Sportline pride ourselves on creating wheel designs that work with the Tesla design language. We’re not making wheels for all sorts of cars—these wheels are designed to look right at home on a Tesla. T Sportline also uses OEM-grade powder coating for a long-lasting, and great-looking finish.

In addition, all Tesla wheels must pass an FEA (Finite Element Analysis) certification and pass TUV standards to ensure the highest quality of engineering and manufacturing. In engineering wheels specifically for Tesla vehicles, T Sportline ensures that its products meet or exceed OEM specifications, and that’s not always the case with many aftermarket parts.

What Makes Tesla Wheels Unique: T Sportline Wheel Testing

T Sportline engineers model all designs through a rigorous finite element analysis (FEA) before approving for production. For instance, here is a T Sportline Model X-specified 20x10-inch wheel modeled at a max gross weight of 6,878 lbs and the FEA results show less than 1.25e8 Nm^2 stress concentration. Anything over 1.5 would be unacceptable. Most other 'forged wheel machinists' simply focus on making a 'cool looking design,' but never properly test or FEA validate the design or the wall thicknesses, resulting in a wheel with a high risk of overstressing under load. This can result in wheel or spoke cracking, air loss risk, wheel deforming, or failures.

Tesla Factory vs Generic Aftermarket Wheels

One key aspect of wheel design is the incorporation of hub centering. Common aftermarket wheels are usually produced to fit a wide variety of vehicles, and as such, use an oversized hub opening that fits many applications and relies on the lug nuts to center the wheel. Whether or not they are centered largely depends on the installation, but an application-specific, machined hub that centers the wheel on the car ensures it will be perfectly centered and balanced. T Sportline wheels are machined to accept the stock Tesla lug nuts, of course, but also incorporate hub centering to provide the ultimate in precision mounting and safety.

Tesla Wheels vs T Sportline Wheels

T Sportline Tesla wheels also feature unique cutouts for a water channel as offered on the original equipment wheels.

    Wheel Construction

There are three main types of wheel construction: cast, flow-forged, and forged. Cast wheels are the most common, both from original equipment and aftermarket standpoints. They are the least expensive to produce, offer basic requirements for strength, and are the heaviest due to their manufacturing method.

What Makes Tesla Wheels Unique: Forged Tesla Wheel

T Sportline offers both flow-forged and forged wheel options for Tesla owners. Flow-forged wheels, sometimes referred to as flow-formed, are lighter and stronger than cast wheels, and are great for daily drivers and occasional performance applications. Flow-forged wheels take a cast blank to the next level by heating it up and stretching and compressing the wheel into its final shape. This process alters the molecular structure, making it stronger. Because of this, less material can be used, which provides the weight-saving benefit.

T Sportline Flow Forged Wheel Process

Flow-forged wheels have greater tensile strength and are more resistant to cracking during an impact. This provides additional safety, as it reduces the chance of tire deflation and loss of traction should the wheel be damaged. Flow-forged wheels are thus a great upgrade over a cast wheel.

Additionally, T Sportline offers forged wheel options for even greater performance. Fully-forged wheels are manufactured using a much more involved process with larger machines, and provide the best strength and lightest weight. If you’re looking for the best performing wheel for your Tesla, look no further. All T Sportline forged wheels are manufactured in the USA as well.

Tesla Factory Center Caps and T Sportline Lug Nut Cover Set

    Finishing Touches

Available in sizes from 18-inch diameter to 21-inch, T Sportline wheels are shipped with T Sportline center caps, but are also designed to work with stock Tesla center caps as well for an additional touch of personalization. T Sportline wheels and lug nuts work with the OE lug nut covers, and T Sportline also offers replacement covers, center caps, and tire pressure monitoring sensors.

Tesla Factory Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor

All T Sportline wheel and tire packages include new and authentic factory Tesla tire pressure monitoring sensors (TPMS). T Sportline stocks all types of Tesla TPMS, including radio-frequency type used on older models and bluetooth low-energy type used on new models. This makes it easy to swap winter tires on, without the need to break summer tires down off wheels to swap TPMS sensors. No calibration is needed with T Sportline TPMS sensors, just bolt on the wheels and the TPMS sensors automatically connect to the Tesla.

T Sportline wheels are designed to work with OE tire pressure sensors, but ship with new sensors that are compatible and automatically connect with your car to provide the required tire pressure data.

    Tesla Wheel Tire Tote Bag

If you have a spare wheel/tire set, T Sportline offers its Wheel/Tire Totes by Project Charged. T Sportline Tire Totes are a convenient way to store and transport winter or spare wheels and tires. The totes keep dirty wheels from touching clothes, vehicle interiors, or anything else. The handle straps make it easy to load the wheels into vehicles or onto shelves, or carrying over floors or stairs if you store wheels in the basement.
