Tesla Unveils New Model S & X Update

An updated Tesla Model S was unveiled in Taiwan featuring new headlights, taillights, and CCS charge ports.

The refreshed Model S started production six months ago with a completely new interior, refreshed exterior, and updated powertrain, so it is a bit surprising to see a new update. The updated Model S is equipped with new headlights, new taillights, a slightly redesigned trunk, and a bigger charge port. It was suspected to be a Model S for international markets- with some of the features making it to the North American version.

Other than Canada, this is the first time a refreshed Model S is shown internationally. Historically, Tesla introduces the international versions of a new car, or new version of an existing model with the appropriate charge port, however, this new one has some more changes.

There are brand new headlights and taillights. They appear to be matrix projector headlights similar to ones on the latest Model 3 and Model Y.

The Model S backend seems to have also been modified with a new streamlined look. The trim over the license plate was removed.

Meanwhile, a new Model X was unveiled, but had far less changes with only the CCS port.

In sum, these new versions of the Model S and Model X are expected to be delivered internationally with the CCS standard charge ports. The new updates are expected to be in the North American market since Tesla produces all Model S vehicles in the Fremont factory. However, the bigger charge port probably won't make it to the North American version since it's bigger than Tesla’s proprietary plug.
