Tesla has officially unveiled its Cybercab, a more compact and stylish two-seater version of the Cybertruck. While many anticipated seeing a prototype of a fully autonomous robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals, CEO Elon Musk surprised attendees by showcasing a fleet of 20 vehicles.
The vibrant “We, Robot” event took place at the Warner Bros. Discovery studio on Thursday. Musk demonstrated the Cybercab, featuring its gullwing doors, during a brief showcase on the well-kept streets of the studio.
He reiterated his assertion that the cost of autonomous transportation would be incredibly low, likening it to “individualized mass transit.” Musk projected that the average operating cost for the Cybercab would be approximately $0.20 per mile over time.
“You’ll be able to buy one,” Musk announced, stating that the vehicle would be priced below $30,000.
He also mentioned plans for Tesla to roll out “unsupervised Full Self-Driving in Texas and California next year” for the Model 3 and Model Y. While he admitted to being overly optimistic about timelines, he expects the Cybercab to enter production by 2026, if not earlier.
