The first Tesla Semi rolled off a new high-volume production line in Nevada, marking the shift from a limited pilot phase to industrial-scale manufacturing. After years of delays since its 2017 debut, Tesla’s dedicated 1.7-million-square-foot facility is now targeting an eventual annual capacity of 50,000 units.
The production version of the Class 8 truck features a 1,000-pound weight reduction and an 800-kW tri-motor drivetrain. It is available in a 325-mile Standard Range model ($260,000) and a 500-mile Long Range model ($290,000), both supporting 1.2-MW "Megacharging" to recover 60% of their range in just 30 minutes.
With delivery volume expected to ramp up through 2026, the Semi is positioned to disrupt the commercial freight industry by offering a 3% total cost of ownership advantage over traditional diesel rigs.
