Several new Model S and Model X cars have been spotted at the Fremont factory parking lot in California by Social Media Influencers The Kilowatts (@klwtts), who managed to take several close up photos of all of the cameras. Here are some of the major differences in the new cameras:
The fender cameras appear to have both a new camera and housing which points the cameras out at more of an angle rather than towards the rear of the car. The rear camera also seems have a larger lens, potentially allowing for a wider field of view. It also appears to have changed position just slightly.
The B-pillar cameras, which do feature a larger lens, appear to be in the same placement and angle as before.
Based on a previous leak out of Giga Shanghai it was expected that the forward facing cameras would be reduced to just two, however in the photos taken by The Kilowatts, it appears there are still three cameras.
Unfortunately there were no additional cameras on either the Model S or the Model X. Based on a teardown of a HW4 computer it looked like new cameras were going to be added to the front and rear bumpers, possibly in the headlights and fog lights, but none were found at this time.
