    Tesla Launches Model 3 & Y Standard

Tesla has introduced “standard” versions of its Model 3 and Model Y, starting at $36,990 and $39,990 respectively. These new trims remove many of the premium features such as exterior styling, color options, wheel choices, interior colors, materials, ambient lighting, accessories, multiple speakers, and a smaller battery.

Because the U.S. federal EV tax credit recently expired, the effective cost to buyers is actually $2,000–$2,500 more than what base Teslas cost just last week. Tesla now reclassifies its prior “base” models as “premium,” which start at $45,000 (Model Y) and $42,500 (Model 3).
