Tesla has expanded its Model Y lineup in Europe and Canada by introducing new, more affordable "Standard" variants. In Europe, a new "Standard Long Range" RWD model has been launched, offering an impressive 657 km of range by utilizing a larger battery while "decontenting" the interior by removing premium features like the rear screen, ambient lighting, and ventilated seats to lower the price.
In Canada, the new entry-level Model Y Standard is priced at a highly competitive $49,990 CAD (roughly $35,000 USD). These Canadian vehicles are being imported from Gigafactory Berlin rather than Tesla’s US factories. This logistical move allows Tesla to bypass specific trade tariffs and offer a price point that is now lower than the average internal combustion vehicle in the country.
This strategic rollout is seen as a direct response to increasing competition from Chinese automakers and European rivals like BMW and Mercedes. By offering stripped-down versions that prioritize range and value over luxury features, Tesla aims to defend its market share in the increasingly crowded electric SUV segment.
