Tesla is celebrating the production of its 4 millionth model with the milestone being reached just 7 months after it produced its 3 millionth vehicle.
During its recent Investor Day, Tesla noted that it took it 12 years to build its first million vehicles. Thanks to the launch of the Model 3 in 2018, it took Tesla 18 months to build its 2 millionth car and then a further 11 months to build its 3 millionth vehicle.
Tesla has a goal to ramp up production to 20 million electric vehicles per year. The automaker currently has four Gigafactories that are in operation. It is also expanding Gigafactory Nevada to add Tesla Semi production at the location, and has recently announced Gigafactory Mexico which will be built just outside of Monterrey, Nuevo León.
Last year, CEO Elon Musk said that he believes Tesla will need about 12 Gigafactories in order to achieve a capacity of 20 million vehicles per year.
