New 2025 Tesla Model Y Juniper Revealed

Tesla's best-selling Model Y SUV has long needed a design update and feature improvements to stay competitive against a growing list of new electric rivals, and it's finally here. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the update—codenamed Juniper—ever since its sibling, the Model 3 sedan, got its refresh for the 2024 model year.

The updated Model Y was quietly introduced on Tesla's China consumer site, with little fanfare. The refreshed SUV boasts a more attractive design compared to the previous model. Its front bumper has been streamlined, and the new, narrower headlights blend seamlessly into a light bar that spans the width of the front trunk lid.

The rear also gets a similar lighting update, featuring a full-width red taillight across the Model Y's hatchback. Other design changes are more subtle, and the Model Y's distinctive tall and swooping proportions remain unchanged.

The interior upgrades were also much-needed, and photos reveal that many of the enhancements made to the Model 3 have been incorporated into the Model Y. These improvements include optional ventilated front seats, a redesigned steering wheel, and a rear-seat display for passengers. The rear screen serves dual purposes, functioning as both a climate control panel and an entertainment display for games and video content. Unlike the Model 3, which uses steering wheel-mounted buttons for turn signals, the Model Y keeps the traditional stalk lever for these functions.

U.S. specifications have not yet been revealed, and the powertrain and battery options available in the China model may differ from those offered in North America. For instance, the Performance trim is not available in China, but it's a popular choice in the U.S., so we expect Tesla to retain that option for the North American market.

While official pricing has yet to be revealed, we don't anticipate a significant increase from the current model's $44,630 price tag. The 2025 Model Y's North American debut is expected soon, so we should have more details about the refreshed SUV in the coming months.
