Michelin Pilot Sport EV for Tesla
T Sportline has been a Michelin Authorized dealer since 2018. The Michelin Pilot Sport EV is the first tire engineered for electric vehicles and electric sports cars.
The Michelin Pilot Sport EV takes into account electric vehicles are heavier, weight distribution is more evenly distributed front to rear and torque is generally higher, especially with Teslas.
Reducingroad noise is always key when developing an EV tire. Michelin’s Acoustic technology, which is a custom designed polyurethane foam liner inside the tire reduces perceptible road noise by 20%.
With higher torque and acceleration comes faster tire wear. Michelin has employed theirMaxTouch Construction technology that maximizes the tires contact with the road and evenly distributes the forces from acceleration.
EV Tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport EV generally havelower rolling resistance. To create lower rolling resistance, manufacturers like Michelin will use different rubber compounds vs. traditional tires as well as engineered tread patterns that result in lower energy loss. The tire compounds are generally lighter than those used for traditional internal combustion vehicles. Michelin tested their 255/45/19 Pilot Sport EV tire against its Pilot Sport 4 SUV tire on a 4,700 lb electric vehicle. The lower rolling resistance and lighter weight Pilot Sport EV resulted in 10% greater range than the Pilot Sport 4.
As far as we know, the Pilot Sport EV will be available for the Tesla Model Y in 255/45/19” and 255/40/20”. Want to know how EV tires differ from traditional tires? Find out more here.
