Tesla announced its newest venture: making humanoid robots, the Tesla Bot. During Thursday's AI Day, Tesla shared its progress to develop AI technology to power its self-driving system.
The Tesla Bot is the 'one more thing' part of AI Day. Tesla is already the largest robotic company in the world as its vehicles see and understand the world around them and act on that information.
Applying Tesla's significant advancements in computer vision, the company will build the Tesla Bot to doing "repetitive and boring tasks."
Using technology already found in Tesla vehicles, the Tesla Bot repurposes technologies like Full Self-Driving and Autopilot to function with a suite of sensors.
The main difference in reapplying Tesla vehicular technology is application in a humanoid format. The ultimate goal of the Tesla Bot is to be able to replace the most "dangerous, repetitive, and boring tasks."
Justifying this, Elon Musk stated if "Tesla doesn't do it, someone else will." Tesla plans to have a prototype ready for "sometime next year."
