The yoke is a very controversial concept for many Tesla owners. Some people fall in love with it and its novelty, but some folks think that it’s hard to use in real-life driving. The most common criticism is the lack of grip up top. It makes U-turns especially difficult for the average owner. After the cool initial impression, some owners find that they are not a fan of the yoke.

T Sportline has heard these criticisms and has worked hard through extensive research and development to bring a solution into the aftermarket with the new Yoke Replacement 360 Steering Wheel. It is a true Tesla Yoke steering wheel, and through our process, we now offer a completed 360 wheel.

It comes in a variety of options: leather, carbon fiber, and custom upholstery. It fits perfectly on all brand new 2021-2022 Tesla Model S and X Refresh which came with a yoke.

The installation may seem a bit daunting at first, but after reading these instructions and watching the installation video, you’ll find it really simple and easy to assemble.

    How to Install:

    Tools Needed:

    • Breaker Bar

    • 10 Millimeter Allen Socket

    • Small Flat Head Screwdriver

    • Torque Wrench (set to 80 Nm / 59 ft-lbs)

    Removing the Yoke Steering Wheel:

    1. Take the Airbag off

Take the small flat head screwdriver and place it completely perpendicular to one of the two small access points behind the wheel.  IMPORTANT:  Keep the small flat head screwdriver completely straight across and not at an angle.

Push on the metal release bar with the small flat head screwdriver. It will start to release the airbag in the middle of the steering wheel. On the yokes, the middle is not a horn- it is just an airbag.

Repeat those steps on the other access point to release the airbag.

Troubleshooting: What do I do if it doesn’t release all the way? Sometimes only the top two clips are the only ones that release. If that is the case, repeat the steps in both access points and scoop the metal bar up while pushing, and it should release.

After pulling out the airbag, you will see a yellow clip and a brown clip. Pinch the yellow clip from the top and bottom and release it. Tip: wiggle it up and down to ease it out.

Repeat that step with the brown clip.

You have now successfully removed the airbag.

    1. Remove the Yoke Steering Wheel

Use the breaker bar with the 10 millimeter allen socket to remove the center bolt from the middle of the steering wheel. Tip: Have someone else assist you by holding the breaker bar while you brace the steering wheel between your hand and leg. Place your other hand on the center for extra support and have the other person push down on the breaker bar, and it will pop.

Once it pops, you’ll be able to remove the whole length of the breaker bar and twist the allen socket to get the center bolt out.

You can now grab the wheel and take it off. You have now successfully removed the Yoke steering wheel.

Troubleshooting: Why won’t it come off? Sometimes the wheel is really stuck on there so you might have to wiggle it off.

IMPORTANT: In the hole on the back of the steering wheel, there are ridges called a spline. The section in the middle indicates that the steering wheel can only be put in one way, straight across.

Attaching the Yoke Replacement 360 Steering Wheel:
You will notice that these next few steps are familiar. Attaching the Yoke Replace 360 steering wheel is not very different from taking off the yoke. It is basically the same steps as before, but backwards.
    1. Attach the Yoke Replacement 360 Steering Wheel

Slide the Yoke Replacement 360 Steering Wheel on straight across.
Put the brown clip in its hole. The hole is located in the same place as the Yoke steering wheel.

Get your center bolt and screw it in as tight as possible by hand.

IMPORTANT: Don’t use an impact gun or similar tools to avoid the risk of cross-threading the center bolt of your steering wheel.

Grab the breaker bar and tighten it in. Tip: Hold the wheel and brace it between your legs, and tighten to 80 Nm / 59 ft-lbs with a torque wrench.
    1. Attach the Airbag

Take the airbag and put the yellow clip in its hole. The hole is located in the same place as the Yoke steering wheel.

Get your airbag and align the two prongs on the back to the holes located in the Yoke Replacement 360 Steering Wheel.

Push it in until there are two clicks. Tip: Push it in from the top center and then both sides until you hear both clicks.
