Six Pro Tips for a Successful Installation

Watch our installation video from beginning to end before starting. Knowing the complete sequence in advance makes alignment easier and helps prevent avoidable mistakes.
Practice the Alignment First
Before peeling any backing, hold each protector against its screen and become familiar with the desired position. Because the screen edges are curved, a small margin of exposed glass is normal. Center the protector so the margins at the top, bottom, left and right are approximately equal.
Identify the Top of the Rear Protector
Rear screens are tapered. The top edge of the protector is slightly different width than the bottom edge. If the sides appear too wide or do not follow the screen edge correctly, rotate the protector to flip the top and bottom edges, and check the alignment again before installation.
Use Screen Clean Mode
Put the vehicle's displays into Screen Clean Mode before starting. This prevents accidental screen commands while you clean, align and apply the protector.
Choose the Right Environment
Work in a clean, dry and dust-free environment. Avoid installing outdoors, in direct sunlight, or in dusty or windy conditions.
Clean Carefully and Take Your Time
Wash and thoroughly dry your hands. Clean each screen carefully and inspect it from multiple angles. Do not rush—the final cleaning and alignment stages determine the quality of the installation.
Before You Begin
Confirm the following before opening or applying the protector:
- The kit matches your Tesla model, model year and screen size.
- You have identified the protector intended for each screen.
- You understand which edge is the top of each tapered rear protector.
- Your hands are freshly washed, completely dry and free of lotion or oils.
- The vehicle is parked in a clean, enclosed and well-lit area.
- Climate-control vents are off so they do not circulate dust during installation.
- The screen is cool to the touch and not sitting in direct sunlight.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Park and prepare the vehicle. Park in a clean, enclosed location. Turn off the climate-control fan, close the doors and windows, and make sure the screens are cool.
- Activate Screen Clean Mode. Enable Tesla's Screen Clean Mode wherever available so touching and pressing the display will not operate vehicle controls during the installation.
- Wash and dry your hands. Remove dirt and skin oils that could transfer to the adhesive side of the film. Avoid applying hand lotion before the installation.
- Identify each protector and its orientation. Match each film to its intended screen. Pay close attention to rear protectors, which may be tapered and have different-width top and bottom edges.
- Perform a dry alignment test. Without removing the backing, hold the protector against the screen. Find the centered position that leaves approximately equal margins around every edge.
- Clean the screen thoroughly. Follow the cleaning process demonstrated in the video. Remove fingerprints, oils, residue and dust. Inspect the display from several angles under good lighting.
- Complete a final dust inspection. Even one small particle can create a visible bubble. Use the supplied dust-removal material, if included, to remove any particles remaining on the display.
- Begin applying the protector. Follow the film-layer sequence shown in the installation video. Avoid touching the exposed adhesive surface with your fingers.
- Align before fully lowering the film. Use the position established during your dry test. Confirm that the top, bottom and side margins are approximately equal before committing the full protector to the screen.
- Lower the protector gradually. Work slowly and evenly. Allow the film to contact the display while guiding out air instead of dropping the entire protector onto the screen at once.
- Remove air pockets carefully. Work bubbles toward the nearest outside edge using the installation tool or method demonstrated in the video. Do not use sharp tools.
- Complete the film-layer process. Remove any remaining transport or protective layer in the order shown in the video. Do not mistake a removable outer layer for the installed protector.
- Inspect the completed installation. Verify the alignment, edges and touchscreen response. Repeat the same careful preparation and alignment process for each remaining screen.
Common Questions and Troubleshooting
| What You Notice | What to Check |
|---|---|
| The rear protector does not follow the screen edges correctly. | Rotate the protector to flip the top and bottom edges, then dry-fit it again. The rear protector is tapered, so its top and bottom edges have slightly different widths. |
| One screen margin is larger than the others. | The protector is not centered. Carefully reposition it before the adhesive has fully settled. |
| A small bubble will not move toward an edge. | A dust particle may be trapped beneath the film. Follow the dust-removal technique shown in the installation video. |
| A narrow border of uncovered glass remains visible. | A small margin is normal because of the screen's curved edges. The goal is to make the exposed margin approximately equal on every side. |
| The screen responds while it is being cleaned. | Confirm that Screen Clean Mode is active before continuing. |
| The protector does not match the screen dimensions. | Stop the installation and verify the vehicle model, model year, screen size and selected product variant. |
Screen-Care Reminders
- Do not spray cleaning solution directly onto the touchscreen.
- Do not use sharp tools to lift or smooth the protector.
- Do not install over visible dust, lint, oil or cleaning residue.
- Do not force bubbles toward an edge with excessive pressure.
- Do not rush the initial alignment—the few extra minutes are worthwhile.
