Tesla Model Y, 3, X, and S SnapPlate Instruction Guide

Tesla SnapPlate Front License Plate Holder Installation Guide

Follow the instructions below to install, adjust, or service your SnapPlate front license plate holder. SnapPlate provides a clean front plate mounting solution without drilling permanent holes into your Tesla.

Compatibility: This guide applies to compatible SnapPlate applications for Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. Mounting details may vary slightly depending on vehicle model and model year.

    Installation Instructions

    1

    Choose Your Plate Position

SnapPlate is normally supplied in its upper plate position. If you prefer a center or lower mounting position, make that adjustment before installing the license plate.

    2

    Attach the License Plate

Secure your license plate to the SnapPlate frame using four of the supplied Torx security screws. Use the black or silver hardware, depending on your preferred appearance.

    3

    Open the Mounting Latches

Press the appropriate side of the SnapPlate actuator to rotate the mounting latches into their open position.

    4

    Insert SnapPlate Into the Grille

Carefully position the SnapPlate mounting mechanism into the center section of the Tesla's lower grille opening.

Make sure the mount is centered and fully seated before engaging the locking mechanism.
    5

    Lock SnapPlate in Position

Press the locking side of the actuator to rotate the latches behind the grille and secure SnapPlate to the vehicle.

    6

    Confirm the Mount Is Locked

Check that the actuator sits flush with the SnapPlate body. This indicates that the locking mechanism is fully engaged.

Give the plate holder a gentle pull to confirm that it is secure before driving.

    7

    Optional Anti-Theft Screw

For additional security, install the supplied black anti-theft screw into the security hole on the side of the SnapPlate body.

    8

    Automatic Car Washes

Remove SnapPlate before using an automated car wash. Touchless washes may be less likely to interfere with the mount, but removal is still the safest choice.

    Plate Height Adjustment

The Tesla SnapPlate mounting frame can be configured in three different vertical positions. This lets you fine-tune how the plate sits relative to the front bumper and grille.

    Center Position

Provides a balanced mounting position between the upper and lower configurations.

    Low Position

Positions the plate lower for owners who prefer a lower-profile appearance.

    1

    Determine Your Preferred Height

SnapPlate is normally shipped in the high position. Decide whether you want the plate in the high, center, or low position before continuing.

The high position is generally recommended because it provides the greatest open area around the grille.
    2

    Remove the Plate Mount Screws

Remove the two screws connecting the license plate frame to the mounting joint.

    3

    High Position

Align the lower mounting holes in the plate frame with the mounting joint, then reinstall and tighten the screws.

    4

    Center Position

Align the center mounting holes in the plate frame with the mounting joint, then reinstall and tighten the screws.

    5

    Low Position

Rotate the plate mount 180 degrees and align the appropriate mounting holes with the joint. Reinstall and securely tighten both screws.

    6

    Reinstall Your License Plate

If the license plate has not already been installed, attach it using the four supplied Torx security screws.

    Plate Mount Joint Replacement

Some SnapPlate configurations allow the standard joint connecting the license plate frame to the SnapPlate body to be replaced with a breakaway-style joint.

    1

Remove the Plate Mount From the Base

Looking down at the top of the SnapPlate assembly, remove the two screws that secure the plate mount assembly to the SnapPlate body.

    2

    Separate the Joint

With the plate mount removed from the main body, locate the two fasteners connecting the plate frame to the joint and remove them.

    3

    Install the Replacement Joint

Position the replacement joint against the plate mount in your preferred high, center, or low mounting position.

    4

    Secure the Plate Mount

Reinstall the screws connecting the plate mount to the joint and tighten them securely.

    5

    Reattach the Assembly

Align the completed plate mount and joint assembly with the SnapPlate body and reinstall the upper mounting screws.

    6

    Final Inspection

Confirm that all mounting hardware is fully tightened and that the plate holder is straight and secure before reinstalling it on the vehicle.

Important: Do not force the SnapPlate locking mechanism. If the mount does not seat or lock normally, remove it and confirm that it is correctly positioned in the grille before trying again.
