Tesla Model S & Model X SnapPlate+ Installation Instructions
Installation and adjustment guide for SnapPlate+ front license plate mounts designed for the 2026 Tesla Model S and October 2021–2026 Tesla Model X with a front bumper camera.
SnapPlate+ provides a clean, removable way to mount a front license plate without drilling holes, applying adhesive to the vehicle, or permanently modifying the front bumper.
Follow the instructions below to assemble the plate mount, install it on the grille, adjust the plate height, and fine-tune the grille depth.
Important: These instructions apply to the compatible bumper-camera vehicles listed below. Always confirm your vehicle and SnapPlate version before installation.

SnapPlate+ Installation
Prepare the T25 Driver
Remove the reversible T10/T25 bit from the included screwdriver handle. Reinstall it with the larger T25 bit facing outward.
Identify the Included Screws
Locate the two different types of screws included in the hardware kit:
- Larger black or silver washer-head screws: Used to attach the license plate to the plate mount.
- Smaller black round-head screws: Used to attach the SnapPlate+ bases to the plate mount.
Install the License Plate
Place your license plate against the plate mount. Confirm that the license plate and the SnapPlate logo along the top of the plate mount are both right side up.
Secure the license plate using four of the included larger black or silver washer-head Torx security screws.
Match the Bases to the Plate Mount
Locate the I and II markings on the two SnapPlate+ bases and on the plate mount.
Position the base marked I on the side of the plate mount marked I. Position the base marked II on the side marked II.
Attach the Bases
Use the smaller black round-head screws to secure each base to the plate mount. Install the screws through the appropriate top and bottom mounting holes.
The plate mount can be configured in low, center, or high positions. If you want to change the plate height, review the Plate Height Adjustment section before tightening all four screws.
Insert SnapPlate+ Into the Grille
Align the vertical openings in the SnapPlate+ bases with the corresponding vertical bars in the vehicle grille.
Slide the SnapPlate+ straight onto the grille. You may press the OPEN buttons while installing it, or gently push the mount into place and allow the buttons to move automatically.
Close the Latches
Push both CLOSE buttons to secure the SnapPlate+ to the grille.
You should feel some resistance, but the buttons should not be excessively difficult to press. If they are too difficult to close, stop and follow the Grille Depth Adjustment instructions below.
Confirm Both Sides Are Locked
Inspect both SnapPlate+ bases. Each CLOSE button should sit flush with its SnapPlate+ body.
A flush button confirms that the latch is closed and the internal magnets are properly engaged.
Install the Optional Anti-Theft Screws
For additional security, tighten the black anti-theft security screw located on each side of the SnapPlate+.
Each screw takes approximately eight full turns to lock or unlock. The screws do not need to be completely removed from the mount.
Plate Height Adjustment
The position of the mounting bases determines the finished height of the license plate. SnapPlate+ supports low, center, and high mounting configurations.
Low Position
Position the bases so the license plate sits at its lowest available setting. Align each base with the corresponding low-position mounting holes and install all four base screws.
Center Position
Position the bases using the center mounting holes. Confirm that both sides use matching holes so the plate remains level.
High Position
Slide the plate mount upward relative to the bases and use the farthest available mounting holes. Install and tighten all four base screws.
Grille Depth Adjustment
Grille depth determines how tightly the SnapPlate+ latches fit around the grille bars. Adjust both sides evenly and in small increments.
Prepare the T10 Driver
Remove the reversible bit from the screwdriver handle and reinstall it with the smaller T10 bit facing outward.
Locate the Adjustment Screws
Find the T10 Torx screw positioned in the center of each sliding latch. These screws control the installed depth of the latches.
Loosen an Overly Tight Fit
If the CLOSE buttons are too difficult to press, turn each T10 adjustment screw counterclockwise one-half turn.
Each half-turn loosens the latch by approximately 0.25 mm. Pull each latch outward gently with your fingers to confirm that it has extended, and then test the fit again.
Repeat as needed, adjusting both sides equally. Do not exceed four half-turn adjustments, equal to two full turns, without contacting support.
Tighten a Loose Fit
If the installed mount feels too loose, turn each T10 adjustment screw clockwise one-half turn.
Each half-turn tightens the latch by approximately 0.25 mm. Test the fit after each adjustment and continue only until the SnapPlate+ closes securely with reasonable button pressure.
Removal & Automated Car Washes
Unlock the Optional Security Screws
If the anti-theft screws are engaged, loosen both screws approximately eight full turns. They do not need to be removed completely.
Open the Latches
Press both OPEN buttons until the latches release from the grille.
Remove the Mount
Pull the SnapPlate+ straight away from the vehicle. Avoid twisting or pulling only one side of the mount.
