Tesla Model S New Ludicrous Speed Upgrade
Posted on July 17, 2015
Today Tesla announced a few new changes to their line up.
The first of which being a reintroduction of the rear wheel drive Model S 70 at a $5,000 price reduction.
Another upgrade Tesla launched today is a new 90kWh battery which translates into 15 more miles of range.
The star upgrade in today's Tesla news is the Ludicrous Speed!
When Tesla Launched the P85D, it was already a pretty "Insane" car. With almost 700Hp and an AWD system giving it a 0-60 mph of just 3.1 seconds coupled with a nearly indestructible frame, it became one of the quickest and safest cars on the market.
For those who wanted their P85D to be a little faster, there's now a upgrade for it. Previously the P85D was only able to pull 1,300 amps out of the battery pack when accelerating. The new Ludicrous Speed mode allows the AWD system to pull 1,500 amps giving it the quicker launch time. Dropping the 0-60 time to 2.8 seconds and kicking up the speed limiter to 155 mph, the Ludicrous Speed mode is the upgrade we've been waiting for!
To give you an idea of the territory that kind of speed and acceleration treads on, the $200,000 Porsche 911 Turbo S has a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and the new $600,000 Lamborghini Aventador SV is expected to run 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds.
The Ludicrous Speed mode is said to be offered in the upcoming Model X as well, giving it a projected 3.3 second 0-60 mph time. This will make it quicker than the Mercedes G63 AMG and Porsche Cayenne Turbo by almost a full second!
Head to head, a Ludicrous Speed equipped Model S should outrun the following cars down a drag strip at 0-60mph: Dodge Hellcat, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Pagani Huayra, McLaren 650S, Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Aventador and a Corvette Z06. Quite the dominatave force for a homegrown automobile.
The T Sportline Carbon Fiber Sport Package is a must for Ludicrous Speed mode owners. Sporty, lightweight and not overstated. In addition, our Forged Wheel Collection offers an array of 21" wheel designs which are at least 20% lighter than the factory 21" Turbine wheels resulting in extended range.
